Try a permanent! Permanents are similar to brevets but any RUSA member can ride a permanent at any time, not just on a specific date. Permanents count toward RUSA distance awards, including the R-12, but generally cannot be used to qualify for BRM events.
Permanent Procedures (with thanks for inspiration to Susan France and her “Hard Ass Rules” for Permanents):
Organizer must receive your registration and fees 1 week before the start of your ride.; Mail 10 days in advance to avoid rejection.
No refunds. No do-overs. No whining. You will be allowed to ride another day only in the event of severe and dangerous weather conditions: Snow, ice, hurricanes.
Start time is the start time on the registration form. The starting control remains open for 1 hour from the start time on the registration form and you must sign in at the first control by no later than the closing time of that control. No exceptions. No excuses. No whining.
Prepare your card for submission by:
putting receipts in order;
circling the times on receipts;
stapling or clipping receipts to the card;
entering the receipt control times on your card;
looking up and entering your RUSA number; and
signing your card.
Cards must be returned to to permanent organizer within 10 days for submission of results to RUSA.
If not received within 10 days: DNF. Contact permanent owner if you DNS or DNF a permanent. If you don’t . . . let’s not go there at this time.
